| Description |
English: Top of Meikle White Hill - looking NW. The hilltop is the subject of the foreground of this photograph. The dark area of trees in the near background is Nobleston Wood; behind this, part of the southern end of Loch Lomond is visible.
"Meikle", like "muckle", means "big", and often specifies the larger of two places (farms, etc.) with the same name [see e.g. "The Concise Scots Dictionary", Chambers]. This hill provides an example of this usage: located just 500 metres to the southwest is Little White Hill: 1029406. For a view of the hill itself, rather than just the summit area, see: 1019779. |
