| Description |
English: Toilets, Ballymena station. See 2091774. During The Troubles the practice in railway stations (outside Belfast), shops and cafes was to lock the toilets. They were either closed for the duration or accessible on request. In the case of Ballymena station, the toilets, while open, faced had an extra hurdle in the way of unwary passengers - the flush in the Gents did not work. Further, the Heid Yin there was very security conscious and railway enthusiasts were not his favourite class of person. This being a Sunday (when he had his rest day) I took the opportunity for a clandestine photo of this hollowed spot. Now entirely renovated and open without request. The Translink generation has no idea how things were in the bad old days. |
