Indian-style bowl
Description
English: This piece was designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany and executed by the Tiffany and Co., the firm established in New York in 1837. L. C. Tiffany served as design director of the company from 1902 until 1917. In shape, the bowl recalls spittoons produced in brass inlaid with silver in India during the 17th through 19th centuries. This masterpiece of goldsmithing and plique-à-jour (open-work) enameling was included in Tiffany and Co.'s display at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition held in San Francisco in 1915.
