English: Animation showing the relation between tide producing force (light blue), frictional forces (dark blue) and energy of the tide (red). The animation starts with a constant frictional force and goes on with frictional forces becoming proportional to the total energy of the tide, whereby the peaks of total energy move towards the peaks of the tide producing force. The second part shows how it is impossible for the maxima and minima of tidal energy to coincide with the maxima and minima of the tide producing force. As friction is a function of energy, friction can no longer vary strongly when energy becomes nearly constant. Hence spring tides can never structurally coincide with full moon or new moon.
Nederlands: Animatie die de relatie tussen de getijdenkracht (lichtblauw), de wrijving (donkerblauw) en de energie van het getij (rood) laat zien. De animatie begint met een situatie waarbij de wrijving constant is, waarna de wrijving geleidelijk proportioneel wordt met de totale energie van het getij, en waarbij de pieken van de energie naar de pieken van de getijdenkracht toe bewegen. Het tweede deel laat zien dat de maxima en minima van de energie nooit samen kunnen vallen met de maxima en minima van de getijdenkracht. Omdat de wrijving een functie is van de energie, kan de wrijving onmogelijk nog sterk sinusvormig fluctueren als de energie zo goed als constant wordt. Springtij kan daarom nooit structureel samenvallen met volle of nieuwe maan maar valt overal altijd een paar dagen na die schijngestalten. |
