Summary[edit]

Description

Hundreds of people of all ages and backgrounds came to Tiburon for a peaceful protest against racism and police brutality on June 23rd, 2020.

The rally started at 4pm at the Tiburon Dog Park, at the intersection of Lyford Drive and Tiburon Blvd. Protesters then marched half a mile towards the fountain in downtown Tiburon, where speakers talked about racism in our area and how we can help change the culture that promotes inequity in our communities.

Everyone was welcome. A majority of participants where white, reflecting Marin County’s demographics. Many were young activists, which is music to my ears. Most people wore masks and tried to stay at a safe distance from each other.

I was inspired by this well-organized community gathering, which brought together diverse cultures to stand up for justice. By connecting with others who are different from us, we all learn how to play a productive role in bridging the gaps and enabling democracy.

I have pledged to do my part to support this social justice movement and fight with them in coming years. Black Lives Matter!
