Description

Trekking 3 days from Tsurpu Monastery to Yangpachen Monastery.

The Tsurpu to Yangpachen trek is a lovely, remote trek zigzaging through several alpine valleys before emerging into the wide Yangpachen Valley. It is a great trek to do without needing additional permits as it is within the Lhasa permit zone (you get to and from the trek via public bus or hitchhiking). Monasteries, remote villages, wildlife and awesome panoramas made this one of my all-time favorite treks.

On the trek, there isn't one obvious trail to follow, so we found the GPS very help when confronted with vague directions. This is a trek to be sure to acclimatize before doing as it is above 4400m for the entire duration and tops out at 5300m.

You'll have be be full self-supported as there are nowhere to access supplies or fuel anywhere along the route. You are really remote passing through only the smallest of villages. Weather can change quickly and we got snow squalls in in May while doing this trek. It is possible to find places to stay each night if you fancy meeting and staying with the locals in their homes or a monastery, but a tent is pretty much a necessity since families may often be away from home with their herds.

The trek is listed as being 55km and taking 3-4 days. We did it in 3, but we were able to move at a good pace and were well acclimatized to the altitude by then.

Sorry these are just scans and not something you can plug into your GPS, but paper's paper so this is the best digitalisation I could do. :)
