The processor is part of the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series and, with 32 cores and 64 threads, is roughly in the mid-range segment. There is also the 7960X (24 cores/48 threads, 152 MiB total cache, 5.3 GHz boot clock, 350 W TDP) and the 7980X (64 cores/128 threads, 320 MiB total cache, 5.1 GHz boot clock, 350 W TDP). The 7000 series supports up to 1 TiB RAM as quad-channel and the 7000 Pro series supports 2 TiB RAM as octa-channel. Care should be taken when purchasing a compatible motherboard; 7000 Pro CPUs may not fit into the 7000 series socket and vice versa. The 7970X uses the sTR5 socket. The CPUs are intended for complex renderings in 3D design, among other things, and less for gaming, even if the CPUs achieve fast clock rates with fewer cores. The purchase should be based on the budget, the required performance and efficiency. For example, the 7995WX usually achieves twice the performance of the 7970X, with 3x more cores and a 4x higher price (approx. €2550 vs. €10,500).
