on was Liberty and Commerce. exempli-fied by appropriate designs and decorations. Red, white andblue lights surrounded the car, while in the seats in the cen-ter of the car, and facing each other, was aboy attired in the traditional costume of Uncle Sam, anda beautiful little girl, attired as the Goddess of Liberty.Between them was a yacht, full-rigged and with all hercourses set, a good imitation of the Defender. The seatswere covered with the national flag and on the front fenderwas a brass howitzer upon a bed of roses. The interior ofthe car was decorated with festoons of white garlands, ex-tending across the car and from front to rear. Red, whiteand blue lights illuminated the interior, and each of theposts were elaborately decorated with bunting and entwinedwith moss, flowers, etc. At each end was a transparencywith the words Our Country in large letters. Palmettomoss and flowers ornamented the roof of the car and thetrolley pole was decorated with small flags and electriclights.

ARABELLAiBRANCH. ^tMS!^ilHiai\S^Aew 261 The car of the Esplanade branch represented Spring.Red, white and blue bunting, interspersed with stars, wasartistically draped around tiiis car, while moss roses andpalmettoesconstituted the remainder of the decorations. Theefifect was very handsome. Small flags and lanterns formedthe interior decorations while numerous boqiiets of naturalflowers were suspended from the ceiling. The car of the Magazine branch, the most beautiful of ah,with a wealth and profusion of brilliant colors and quanti-ties of natural flowers. The fender was raised in the centerso that it resembled the pilot of a locomotive. It was a soliatriangular pyramid of choice roses, with electric lights scat-tered amidst the bed, giving a most beautiful effect. Tlipdashboard at each end was a mass of flowers, while at eitherend on top of the car, there was a solid arch of flowers, aswell as along the sides of the roof.
