CALDWELL S RAIL. The popularity of the merry-go-round or carousel atsummer resorts has become so great as to lead to manvimprovements in designs and modes of operation.Messrs. Norman & Evans. Lockport, N. V., havedesigned what should prove a very satisfactory form forboth proprietors and patrons. It is propelled from anupright engine mounted upon trucks by a cable passingaround the outer edge of the machine. This is com-pletely under the control of the engineer and out of theway of the riders. The machine can be taken apart andtransported in any ordinary box car. It is forty feet indiameter, and has a seating capacity of tifty-six peoplevariously arranged upon galloping horses, carriages andchariots. The horses are finished in a life-like manner,with comfortable saddles, and the four-seated convey-ances have landscape-painted panels.
