The en-tire line is heavily ballasted with crushed rock, ten to twelve inchesof which is placed under the ties. The plan of what is known asthe University Ave. crossing, which is shown herewith, illustratesthe substantial character of the track construction. .An elevation of the track-oiling attachment for the tank car is shown herewith. Theflow of oil is controlled both by a valve on the tank car and alsoby a quick-acting gate valve just below the 4-in. union. About twomiles of single track can be oiled with a 6,500-gallon tank car.
