J-Murnane, of St. Louis, under patents granted March, 1891The promoters of the device have established a work-jii- model in Room 73, Exchange Building, Chicago. with the clip and the current is conveyed to the motor.After the trolley has passed, the brusii falls to its verticalposition and the next one is tilted. Thus one brush is always in the circuit and for thegreater part of the time as the car passes, two brushesare feeding the current into the motors. CONDUIT COLUMBIAN UNDERGROUND ELECTRIC RAILWAY. The general appearance of the model suggests thecable system, and indeed is intended to show the methodsof using cable ways for this traction. Themethod is simple and not altogether unex-ploited. The car ma\ be fitted with one or twomotors, as work would require, and a slotbuilt especially for it is of less depth than anordinary cable way, and as in the case of thetrolley, the rails are used for the return. Alead covered cable conveys the current to cer-tain points, at more or less distances apart, ac-cording to necessity, where the current iscommunicated to the trolley board, 16 feet long,running lengthwise way of the car. Our illus-tration shows roughly the method used. Asliding trolley, as we may call it, is hung fromthe trucks of the car. This trolley is 16 feetlong, and built substantially, with a thin sheetof copper on the upper surface, which collectsthe current from the contact switches placedat intervals of twelve feet, and conv
