These physical features are illustrated in the accompanying map, showing the routes of the electric railway. It will also beseen that the peculiar location of the city allows the entire popula-tion to be served by a comparatively small amount of trackage.At present, there is a total of n miles of roadbed, to which duringthe coming summer will be added 4 more miles. This roadbed isIJi.ill with single track and turnouts 1,000 ft. long. The generous much simplified and all schedules are not delayed if the cars onany one route are late. The roadbed construction in the business portion of the city isbuilt according to a design which is especially interesting. The rails,which are in 62-ft. lengths weighing 72 lb. to the yard, and of a 6-in.high T section, are supported by a continuous concrete arch-shapedfoundation, combining the trench and flat-bed types of construction.

The old line was built with double track on three sides of thecapitol square, leaving the street on the fourth side unoccupied.With this arrangement satisfactory operation was best effected byusing the Y at the northwest corner as a transfer point. When The dimensions of this track foundation are shown on an accom-panying cross section of the single-track roadbed. The streets inwhich this type of track is built are paved with asphalt, using graniteblocks adjacent to the rails.
