A very complete block signal system has been installed, worked with a pressure of 60 volts between one of the track rails and the negative conductor-rail. Owing to the limited head room in a tube railway it isnecessary to keep the floor of the car as low as possible, and inorder to get the motor truck, motors, and 36-in. wheels into thespace the floor of the car above the truck is raised as shown inthe drawings. This method of construction, it may be remembered,is used on the motor cars on the Waterloo and City Ry. Therest of the floor of the car is only 22 in. above the rails. Thereare two G. E.-66 motors of 200 h. p. each mounted on the drivingtruck of each motor car and all the motors are controlled fromone cab by the Sprague-Thompson-Houston multiple-unit system.
