ailroad Co. has had under consideration fora number of years plans for establishing a terminal for its lineson Manhattan Island. The earliest of these contemplated a bridgeover the Hudson River with elevated approaches and a terminal inthe city of New York. The demonstration that electric tractionwas practicable for heavy train units made possible an entranceby means of tunnels, which would enable the adoption of a wellrounded out plan for a terminal embracing not only the Pennsyl- On account of the very large amount of power that will event-ually be needed by the new lines, it was thought desirable to buildthe power station near the location which will eventually be theelectrical center. The proximity of the East River was so ad-vantageous for both condensing water and cheap coal delivery asto determine the selection of a situation abutting it.
