THE LEADER OF THE LIONS OHN DOLITTLE now becamedreadfully, awfully busy. Hefound hundreds and thousands ofmonkeys sick—gorillas, orang-ou-tangs, chimpanzees, dog-faced ba-boons, marmosettes, gray monkeys,red ones--all kinds. And many had died. The first thing he did was to separate thesick ones from the well ones. Then he gotChee-Chee and his cousin to build him a littlehouse of grass. The next thing: he made allthe monkeys who were still well come and bevaccinated. And for three days and three nights themonkeys kept coming from the jungles and thevalleys and the hills to the little house of grass,where the Doctor sat all day and all night, vac-cinating and vaccinating. 67
