In the spacious court, and directly fronting the entrance,is a bronze statue of the late King, with a figure of theRiver Thames at his feet, pouring wealth and plenty froma large cornucopia. It is by Bacon, possesses his charac-teristic cast of expression, and is finely executed. The major part of this grand national structure is occu-pied by the various offices and by the abodes of differentofficers of the government. The former are at once com-modious, elegant, and worthy of the wealth of the nationto which they belong: business is transacted in them withmost admirable order.
