English: The municipal slaughterhouse of Alexandria overlooking the Slaughterhouse Bay, 1911 (Malavel 1911, 54).
A new and sizable slaughterhouse was constructed in Alexandria around 1905. The slaughterhouse, overlooking the Slaughterhouse Bay, was constructed collaboratvely by both the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture. The industrial premise was installed with petrol operating machines, electricity for lightng, and French Decauville narrow-gauge tracks. Beside the slaughterhouse was the Tannerie Moderne in Alexandria, which was owned by A.Z. Halcoussis Fils and Co, a pioneer in introducing motorized tannery operations, when all of Alexandria’s tannery actvites were placed on an approximate area of 9000 m² in 1905.Deutsch: Der städtische Schlachthof von Alexandria mit Blick auf die Schlachthofbucht, 1911 (Malavel 1911, 54).
Um 1905 wurde in Alexandria ein neuer, großer Schlachthof gebaut. Der Schlachthof mit Blick auf die Schlachthofbucht wurde in Zusammenarbeit zwischen dem Handelsministerium und dem Landwirtschaftsministerium errichtet. Das Industriegelände war mit benzinbetriebenen Maschinen, elektrischer Beleuchtung und französischen Decauville-Schmalspurgleisen ausgestattet. Neben dem Schlachthof befand sich die Tannerie Moderne in Alexandria, die A.Z. Halcoussis Fils and Co. gehörte, einem Pionier bei der Einführung des motorisierten Gerbereibetriebs, als 1905 alle Gerbereien Alexandrias auf einer Fläche von etwa 9000 m² errichtet wurden. |
