TRANSLATION 305 August 12—We received confirmationof the news that M. de Lamotte Piquethad taken twenty one Vessels from theSaint Eustatia convoy. Side Note.—Five Hessian deserters came in,one on horseback. A man deserted from the Deux-Ponts. August 13—We learned that twentyvessels from Europe had arrived at NewYork. The Convoy was composed oftwo frigates and eighteen transport ves-sels, laden with Hessian troops ; We areassured that this reinforcement is oftwenty-five hundred to three thousandmen.
