Summary[edit]

Description
English: The grave of "Red Fred" the Unicyclist and "Rosa" at Llanrhuddlad. Frederick William Lowes, a Bishopwearmouth-born internationally famous unicyclist and Rose, his wife and stage assistant, a local girl, made Rhydwyn their home, while travelling the world performing remarkable feats. Ginger haired Fred (hence the stage name "Red Fred") was just 5' tall. He was also known as "The Human Gyroscope" and "the little marvel on one wheel". During WWII, Fred was a member of ENSA. A photo exits of him riding the rim of the steaming funnel of the troopship RMS Asturias in mid-ocean. At home in Rhydwyn, Fred would ride daily on his unicycle to the Black Lion, south of Llanfaethlu, a round trip of 6kms. Pat, Fred and Rose's daughter, became a member of the act from a very young age and herself became a well known unicyclist.
