Summary[edit]

Description
English: Title: The flag of our union

Abstract: A dramatic Unionist print in much the same mold as "The Union Volunteer" (no. 1861-14). Here a young, mustachioed Union soldier is shown in three-quarter length, facing left while holding an American flag over his right shoulder and raising a saber above his head. This and similar prints were evidently designed to ride the initial crest of militant patriotism in the North after the outbreak of the Civil War. Physical description: 1 print on wove paper : lithograph ; image 44 x 31 cm.

Notes: The Library's impression of "The Flag of Our Union" was deposited for copyright by Currier & Ives on June 13, 1861, and bears a later, November 15, State Department stamp.; Published in: American political prints, 1766-1876 / Bernard F. Reilly. Boston : G.K. Hall, 1991, entry 1861-15.
