| Description |
English: The east front of The Vyne, Sherborne St John. At SU637568. This house was first built for Lord Sandys, Henry VIII's Lord Chamberlain in the early 16C, but was altered and reduced in size in the mid-17C. It was bequeathed by Sir Charles Chute to the National Trust in 1956. The Classical portico on the west front (see other photo) was the first of its kind in England. |
