LOLIS .W landscapes with curious Chinese perspective and pig-tailedsons of the Far East. It had its rage and passed, but therelingered for many years the subtle influence of China inthe use of plant forms drawn from nature, flowers and leavesrendered with the full effect of light and shade, fruit also,cherries and plums, and a fantastic form of floral was generouslyadopted, together with architectural fragments, cascades andrococo details. It was all a capricious, whimsical style.

Extravagances and court profligacy contributed to thepopularity of the most lavish and gorgeous decorative style, andthe presence of the Dauphiness as a prominent figure was apicture of refinement amid ribaldry, culture amid chicanery, butshe held aloof from these associations, and the refinement of thestyle known later as the Louis XVI was a style which reflectedMarie Antoinettes personality.
