English: Some with vegetables for the market, others returning from the field with bundles of wood and a little girl with a baby on her back.
This picture is captured in Sato square, in Savalou, where I grew up. Two interpretations on this picture: - Gender inequality remains a cliché that is not always verified at all levels of social organization in Africa. We see at least two boys carrying, like the girls, products to sell at the market. I didn't have sisters and my mother educated my brother and me to do all the work that girls and boys could do. I found myself a little bit through these two young boys. - The image of the little girl with a child on her back is proof that society is already preparing the little girl for her role as a woman and a mother. Before becoming a teenager, this girl would already have all the skills to take care of her little brother/small sister. This is also the power of orality. This is how most of the mores and practices are transmitted from one generation to another in Africa, sometimes, unfortunately, with abuse.Français : Certains avec des légumes pour le marché, d'autres revenant du champ avec des fagots de bois et une fillette avec un bébé au dos.
Ce cliché est capturé sur la place Sato, à Savalou, ou j’ai d’ailleurs grandi. Deux interprétations sur cette photo: - L'inégalité des genres reste un cliché qui n'est pas toujours vérifiée à tous les niveaux de l'organisation sociale en Afrique. On voit au moins deux garçons portant, comme les filles, des produits à vendre au marché. Je n'ai pas eu de sœurs et ma maman a éduqué mon frère et moi à faire tous les travaux que fille et garçon pouvaient exécuter. Je me suis retrouvé un peu à travers ces deux jeunes garçons. - L'image de la fillette avec un enfant au dos est la preuve que la société prépare déjà la fillette pour son rôle de femme et de mère. Avant de devenir adolescente, cette fillette aurait déjà toutes les aptitudes pour prendre soin de son petit frère/petite sœur. C'est aussi cela la force de l'oralité. C'est ainsi que la plupart des mœurs et pratiques se transmettent d'une génération à une autre en Afrique avec, parfois, et malheureusement, des abus.
