ago in the Chapter House of Bristol Cathedral, forming the cover of a mediaeval coffin. Probably it had, originally, no connexion with the church. Indeed it must be older than the foundation of the monastery (1142), for its style recalls that of Anglo-Saxon sculptures of the eleventh century. 2 The scene appears to be complete; and it clearly belongs to the earlier type described above, and in its general features is closely allied to the picture in S. Maria Antiqua. It is reproduced in Fig. 12. Christ, 1 F. 31 b. The same scene appears in the Barberini Psalter (f. 44). Cf. Milanges, De Rossi, 278. 2 E.g. the well-known reliefs from Selsey in Chichester Cathedral, of which there are casts at S. Kensington. S.
