Away up at one end, under an immense rainbow,sat a haughty-looking king; and the gay and festivepeople ranged themselves on either side of him. By and by the King called out in a loud voice, — Where is little Article, our page ? Immediately a small boy, in a mighty pair ofslippers, who looked a very little article indeed, stoodtrembling before the King. Well, roared the King, dont stand loafingabout here, but run as fast as you can to the royalpresence of Queen Noun, and tell her we request herattendance. Whereat the little Article, tremblirfg a great deal,skipped backward to the door, and then ran off asfast as he could. For, said the King, trying to get off a poorjoke, how could King Verb be merry if the objectof his thoughts and the subject of his affections beabsent from. his throne?
