The pillars and arches of the colonnades of the buildingare richly and ingeniously decked with marine forms of endlessvariety, turtles, crabs, lobsters, fish of many kinds ; the effects areinvariably beautiful. The main building is provided with two grandentrances. These are through loggias about 80 feet long, project-ing 41 feet beyond the line of the main building, and flanked ateach corner with lantern-like polygonal towers. Surmounting thequadrangular first story is a great circular story capped with a FISHERIES. 209 conical roof. A graceful open turret crowns this roof, and foursmaller towers surround the base.
