Never was a saying truer than that Historyrepeats itself. The early bicycles had solid frames and themetal was forged into such section as seemedto combine beauty and durability. With the use of tubing came straightframes, because plain, straight tubing wasmost easily had. Later, improved processes of working tubesproduced taper frames, and no bicycle wasconsidered complete unless it had taper back-bone and taper fluted hollow forks, or somesimilar fittings. With the advent of the safety some manu-facturers attempted to introduce into the safe-ty the lessons of experience which they hadlearned from the ordinary, and built safetybicycles with flattened taper fork sides, taperhandle bars and similar finery.
