Minneapolis, Minn., Dec. 26.—Tom Eckarrived in this city from New York this weekand says that for the present the Michael-Linton match is off. He states that the factthat Plummer insists on paced races, whichwill entail an expense of several thousanddollars, is the chief obstacle in arranging thematch. He claims that Linton already hasplenty of trained pacers, while he would haveto spend time and money to secure a crewand get them in shape. Then, he says, it wasafterwards practically settled to run a seriesof unpaced races, but after he left for homehe received word that Plummer declined toconsider a match while he was under suspen-sion. In Chicago Eck called on Gerlach andwas informed that Michael must not ride un-der his management while under suspension,and that put a damper on Eck.
