English: The Tannerie Moderne in Alexandria was owned by A.Z. Halcoussis Fils and Co, a pioneer in introducing motorized tannery operations, when all of Alexandria’s tannery actvites were placed on an approximate area of 9000 m² in 1905.
Beside the tanneries, a new and sizable slaughterhouse was constructed. The slaughterhouse, overlooking the Slaughterhouse Bay, was constructed collaboratvely by both the Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Agriculture. The industrial premise was installed with petrol operating machines, electricity for lightng, and French Decauville narrow-gauge tracks. |
