886 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. (Vol. XXXL No. 22. coal handling system as a whole is capable of delivering 600tons to the plant per day of 12 hours. The boilers arelocated on both sides of a central firing aisle with overheadcoal bunkers between, as is shown in the accompanyingcross-section. After the skip bucket has reached the limitof its travel it discharges the coal into a second Himtcrusher and thence is delivered to the bunkers by an i8-in.conveyor. This conveyor traverses the entire length of theboiler room. When the plant is completed the ashes will beremoved by industrial cars running on rails in a sub-base-ment beneath the firing aisle. The plant now contains 31 Babcock & Wilcox watertube boilers built for 175 lb. pressure. Seven of these boil-ers are rated at 400 hp each and the other 24 are rated at600 hp each. Four of the 600-hp units are hand fired, theremaining 27 boilers being equipped with the Green En-gineering Companys chain grate stokers. The boilers areall design
