ouse facing on Vin-cennes Road which has just been completed. The two areseparated by an open space 66 ft. wide for a fire breakacross which the 30 storage tracks are carried, making thenew house simply an extension of the old, having the samenumber of bays and tracks. The car houses are separatedfrom the shop buildings by a blank fire wall on the southside which is built across the end of the 66-ft. allev as well.The old house is 353 ft. x 349 ft. and the new house is500 ft. X 349 ft. The new car house is built of brick with cement floorsand reinforced concrete roof. It is lighted l)y monitor sky-lights in the roof over the center of each bay. The interioris painted white above black wainscoting 5 ft. high. Atnight the illumination is by enclosed arc lamps hung fromthe roof and incandescent lights in the five emergency re-pair pits. The ends of the building are closed by rollingsteel doors. In the northwest corner is the office building. 598 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. (Vol. XXXL No. 15.
