Journal CHURCH AVENUE AND LONG Manhattan Beach division of the Long Island Railroad,which will be crossed on a plate girder bridge. Hereto-fore the crossing has been the reverse of this condition.

VIEW FROM BRIDGE AT NEWKIRK AVENUE FACING THESITE OF A NEW STATION Just east of this crossing a Y leads off the Long IslandRailroad and a double-track system runs parallel to theBrighton Beach line as far as Coney Island, the two linesbeing close together for a short stretch, and then, swing- embankment. The changes on the Long Island system arebeing carried on as a part of the Bay Ridge improvement,which is also under the control of the Brooklyn GradeCrossing Commission. The embank-ment will contain about 1,000,000 cu.yds., the cut above described furnishingabout 230,000 cu. yds. and the remaindercoming from the Bay Ridge improve-ment. The streets intersecting the right ofway are carried over the cut on plategirder bridges, and on the south end un-der the embankment through subwaysspanned by the same type of bridge.The maximum height that any streetwas raised was 7 ft. and the maximumgradient t,.^, per cent.
