a wheel set is placed in service it is placedon a stand so as to be easily run by belting from a con-venient motor or engine, while the journals are placed torevolve in leather bearings. A boy lubricates the journalsfrom time to time, pressing down on them a piece of emerycloth until the combined action of the oil and emery hasgiven the journals a high, smooth polish. This processusually requires one to one and a half hours. It has beenfound that the reduction in journal friction thus attainedhas practically eliminated hot boxes. 1202 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. (Vol. XXX. No. 26. NEW TERMINAL STATION AT EVANSVILLE, IND. The new terminal station of the Evansville, Suburban &Newburg Railroad at Evansville is noteworthy because ofthe unusual amount of attention given to, and expense in-,curred in, producing pleasing and harmonious effects in thewaiting rooms. Other portions of the building have notbeen neglected, however, as is evidenced by the accom-panying reproduction of the faqade.

EXTERIOR OF EVANSVILLE TERMINAL The station is located on Fifth Street, near Main, in theheart of the business district of the city and on the site ofthe former depot, and serves as a terminal for the Boon-ville and Newburg branches of the Evansville, Suburban &Newburg Railroad, the Evansville & Eastern Company andthe Evansville and Mt. Vernon Traction Company. It hasa front of 69 ft. on Fifth Street, while the passenger station offices and the office of the general manager and by freighttracks and a loading platform. The floors of all the roomsare of marble mosaic and the ceilings are of steel. Theinterior wood finish is oak. Above the marble baseboardand oak wainscoting the walls are plastered and painted.Both waiting rooms are amply provided with oak seats.For convenience of occupants of the ladies waiting room,the one column in this room is surrounded by mirrors. Thegeneral effect of all the waiting rooms and offices is height-ened considerably by the or-namental electric
