On top of the cinder concrete isa granolithic finish not less than 1 in. thick at any point,and varying in thickness under track stringers from 1 in.at the summit to 2^/2 ins. at the low point. The granolithicsurface is jointed to form panels. The under surface ofthe floor isdevel, the finished top of the floor being laid tosuccessive grades, to shed water from the summit to thelow point, or line of floor drains. All steel members forming the floor system, with the ex-ception of plate girders, are protected with cinder concreteextending to the line of floor slabs. 1030 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. (Vol. XXX. No. 21. The slab construction over plate girders is shown in theaccompanying typical sections. As there are no hauncheson the plate girders, bent hanger rods are provided overthe top flanges of the girders to support longitudinal rodson each side of the girder flange, this reinforcement takingcare of the total shear in the slab at this section. The reinforcement for 4-in. concrete slabs consists of0.25 sq. in. of steel per foot of slab width. The minimumthickness of concrete below the steel reinforcement is % in.In general, longitudinal beams beneath track rails consistof 18-in. -55-lb. I-beams enclosed in cinder concrete. Therails are laid on 6 in. x 12 in. hard pine stringers. Thelatter are held in position by metal stringer ties of the con-struction illustrated. 6 ft. 5 13/16 ins. long and 5 ins. wideeach. Seven hundred of these were required, made ofstructural steel having an ultimate tensile strength of quarters below the elevated tracks. T
