ELECTRIC TRAIN IN THE BREMBANA VALLEY, SHOWINGWOODEN BRACKET POLES Valley Railway, the subject of this article, connects Berg-amo, 810 ft. above sea level, with the village of SanGiovanno Bianco at an altitude of 1300 ft. The length ofthe line is 30 km, or a little over 16 miles. Tt is laid with a 26 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. (Vol. XXX. No. i. single track of standard gage. The minimum curve radiusis 150 m. (about 500 ft.) and the maximum grade is 2.4 percent. There are seventeen tunnels on the line, some of themmore than 200 m.. or one-eighth of a mile, in length, andthe road crosses the Brembo River at various points. The adoption of electric power was dictated largely bythe amount of available water-power in the neighborhood.Current is generated at 25 cycles at a hydro-electric powerstation high in the mountains, 3300 ft. above the terminalstation at San Giovanno Bianco. It contains three 500-k. v. a. turbo-units for traction service and one 50-k. v. a.alternator fur power and lighti
