Text Appearing Before Image:
The mahogany finish of the inside of the car, together withthe semi-empire ceilings, gives to the interior a very attrac-tive appearance. The marquetry lin^s with which the mahog-any finish is inlaid, together with the green opalescent glassin the deck sash, heighten the interior appearance of the carconsiderably. The ceilings are painted a light green and aretastefully decorated. Leather covered seats of the high backtype are used in both passenger and smoking compartments.The car is arranged with a hot-water heater in the passengercompartment, while the toilet occupies a position near therear of the car. A portion of the baggage compartment, theleft-hand corner, is utilized as a motormans cab. This con-tains in addition to air brake, a St. Louis Car Company bronzevertical wheel brake. The car body is mounted on mastercar builders trucks and these are hung with four 75-hpmotors. The car is arranged for multiple-unit control. Airsanders as well as multiple control is employed. ♦♦+

ONE OF THE NEW STANDARD CARS OF THE ILLINOIS TRACTION SYSTEM with such rapidity that the map of the State now shows inter-urban lines connecting the majority of the principal cities, andespecially is this so in the central portion. The car shown inthe accompanying reproduction was built by the St. LouisCar Company for the Central Illinois Construction Com-pany for use on the lines of the McKinley syndicate, whichhas taken the lead in the development of the Illinois lines.The cars are of the combination passenger, smoking and bag-gage type and are intended for operation in one directiononly. They have a length over all of 51 ft. 6 ins., while theextreme width is 9 ft. ir< ins. The first annual report submitted by the new board of di-rectors of the West India Electric Company, at the annual meeting held in Mon-treal a few days ago,showed that v e r ymarked progress hadbeen made. The grossearnings for the yearamounted to $1.39,762.33,an increase of $8,595.08,or 6.55 per cent over thep
