To eliminate danger of firesin cars, all wiring is run in conduits, and asbestos and dou-ble rubber-covered wire is used. Electric heaters have beenreplaced with hot water heaters. INTERIOR OF TROY FREIGHT STATION used on the limiteds. A timber pilot of the type illustratedis used exclusively. BEARINGS For armature and axle bearings the company uses WhitesNo. 1 babbitt. These bearings are cast in the companysshop and are made three times the diameter of the shafts; ahighly polished mandrel is used in casting, so that it is notnecessary to turn the bearings. Oil lubrication is used ex-clusively. Westinghouse No. 76 motors are employed. Thestandard grease cup is retained, and a screen is placed atthe bottom of the cup, which is then packed with wool waste EXTERIOR OF TROY FREIGHT AND PASSENGER STATION gear cases are not used as they are deemed undesirable for high speed. TROLLEY WHEELS Kalamazoo 6-in. trolley wheels are employed, and give alife of from 3500 to 5000 miles. They have oil lubricationsand an extra pair of holes is drilled to give additional lu-brication. The practice is to use a wheel several days onthe limited runs, and then change it to a local car.
