The contract given to this company includes four three-phase25-cycle generators, each designed to give a continuous outputof 3200 K. V. A. at a speed of 94 r. p. m. This output is to berated with a power factor of 94 per cent. The working pres-sure is 6600 volts and the current per phase is 280 amps. Themachines will be called upon to give an overload of 25 per centfor two hours continuously. The field magnets are placeddirectly on the rim of the engine fly-wheel, the stored energyof which equals 11,000 ft. tons at normal speed. This com-pany is also constructing the complete fly-wheel. The Boston Elevated Railway Company began the operationof five-car trains on its elevated division during the rush hoursof March 22.
