From the lat-ter position the repair partmay be transferred to theshop floor by means ofself-supporting jib cranesthat are to be placed at thewest end of the space be-tween pits, or the jibcranes may deliver theirburden to any surface oroverhead traveling device,so that the repair part isput into line for any de-partment of the building.The pneumatic jack hasthe outside tubing 8 ins.in diameter, and the liftoperates through a dis-tance of 30 ins. Air issupplied to the jack bymeans of a system of24-in piping. The Ameri-can General EngineeringCompany, of New York,has the order to buildtwenty-one air jacks ac-cording to this design forapproximately $4,000. One of the new ma-chine tools of the equip-ment will be the wheel-grinding machine for thetruing of flatted wheelswithout removing thetrucks from the car body. STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL.
