r, which is 23 per cent of the annual cost ofpower generation and distribution (about $125,000). ♦♦« The John Stephenson Company has lately delivered to theBiloxi Electric Railway & Power Company two cars of thetype illustrated. Biloxi is located in the extreme central south-ern part of Mississippi, on the Gulf of Mexico. The new cars measure 28 ft. over the end panels and are 8ft. 4 ins. wide over all. The window system is of the double-sash arrangement, the top sash being stationary and the lowerdrops into pockets which are provided with hinged covers.The vestibule sashes are of single lights, and also drop intopockets. Detachable wire window screens are included in theequipment. The seats are of spring cane and are transverselyplaced, with the exception of the four longitudinal seats at thecorners of the car. The seating capacity is forty. Cherry,with decorated birch ceilings, constitutes the interior finish ofthe cars. The trucks are of the Brill No. 27-G type, with 4-ft.

The length of the car over the vestibule sheathing is 37 ft.The height from the under side of the side sills to the top of theroof is 9 ft. 4 ins. The platforms are 4 ft. 6 ins. The thicknessof the corner posts is 3% ins., and of the side posts, 2% ins. An electric express train on the Lancashire & YorkshireRailroad, bound from Liverpool for Southport, came into col-lision Thursday evening, July 27, with an empty stationarytrain at the Hall Road station, dl/2 miles from Liverpool, caus-ing the death of twenty-three persons and the injury of manyothers.
