J/2 miles from the city, is seen on the 888 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. (Vol. XXVI. No. 20. map. There is a total of 375 acres in the property, 40 of whichare improved for an amusement park. On the property is aquarry, which has a crushing plant with a capacity of 200 yds.of crushed rock per day. The park is not owned by the com-pany, but by one of its officers. Admission to the park is free.The fare from the city is 10 cents one way. Among the artificialattractions forming the park equipment is a figure 8 tobogganand a large carousel made by the Philadelphia Toboggan Com-pany. A very fine sound shell for use in giving open air con-certs has been erected. The enclosure in front of this soundshell seats 1500 peoole. A summer theater built on the hillsideseats 800 people. Besides this, there is a dance hall on thegrounds, a cafe and an electric lighting plant driven by agasoline engine. This plant supplies the incandescent lightingfor interiors and decorative lighting, while the grounds are

Tcrete dams in the stream flowing through the park makcellent lagoons for boating. wo con-e ex- POWER SUPPLY Power is purchased from the Topeka Edison Company,which is controlled by the same men as the railway. Thiscompany has a fine plant well equipped for taking care of boththe commercial lighting and railway loads. There are three500-kw G. E. 600-volt generators direct connected to com-pound vertical Buckeye engines for the railway service. Arecent addition to. the railway part of this plant is an 800-amp.-hour Gould storage battery with Gould booster arrangement,whereby the fluctuations of load are taken by the battery anda constant load is kept on the engines. A chart of the generatorload before and after taking the battery is reproduced onpage 885. The battery room and arrangement of batteries is worthy ofspecial attention. It is doubtful whether there is another bat-tery room of this size
