THE NEW STEEL CAR FOR THE NEW YORK CITY RAILWAY COMPANY, THE FIRST EVER USED ON A STREET RAILWAY the bottom of the side sill to the top of the eaves. The carlinesconsist of bent angles and run continuously from side post toside post across the car. The side posts are strengthenedlongitudinally by angle-iron bridge members between each twoposts at the window rail and at the tops of the windows. The outside panels are steel plates Y% in. thick. The lowerset of panels, running from the guard rail to the bottom of theside sills, are riveted horizontally under the guard rail and ver-tically at each post, so that in case of damage any panel can beeasily replaced.
