In the Oct. 14 issue of the Street Railway Journal anaccount was given of the opening on Sept. 29 of one of thetunnels between Hoboken and Morton Street of the HudsonCompanies. Since that event the plans of the company for anextensive surface railway system in Jersey City and the equip-ment of a high-speed electric line between the present Penn-sylvania Railroad terminal in Jersey City and Newark havebeen made public. The accompanying map shows the completesystem as now decided upon. In this map the tunnel systems under the river are indicatedby heavy black lines. As will be seen, the system forms a Y-shaped line from Thirty-Third Street, Manhattan, down SixthAvenue, across the Hudson River to Hoboken, then back fromJersey City to the corner of Cortlandt and Church Streets, withspurs on Ninth Street, Manhattan, and to the Lackawanna andJersey Central stations on the New Jersey shore.
