t of the Hamamatsu Cho sub-station is similarto that of the station described, except that it contains tworotaries instead of four. Included also in the General Electric Companys contractwere trolley wire and overhead line material for 10 miles ofdouble track, together with 250 cantilever motor trucks builtby the Peckham Manufacturing Company and equipped withGE 1000 motors. The car bodies were built in Japan, and areof light construction, so that single-motor equipments werefound to be of sufficient capacity. The cars are housed in acommodious car house, containing- a transfer table, which isalso operated by GE 1000 motors. The electric service was inaugurated on March 17, 1904, andit is of interest to note that the entire work of installation andoperation has been exclusively in the hands of native engineers,without direct assistance of any kind from the manufacturingcompany which supplied the apparatus.
