American engineers were decidedly skeptical as tothe ability of any one to produce an alternating-current rail-way system that could be operated economically or satisfac-torily, or alternating-current motors with the proper character-istics for railway service. This was shown by the many doubtsexpressed at the meeting of the American Institute of Elec-trical Engineers, Sept. 26, 1902, where Mr. Lamme presentedhis first paper. To-day the general verdict is that the alter- nearly two years a car equipped with these motors has been inalmost daily use upon the Inter-Works- Railway between EastPittsburg and Wilmerding, and system of regulation and con-trol suited to various opera
