The remaining power the company is alreadyunder contract to sell to the Portland General Electric Com-pany, whose water-power development at Oregon City has nowreached its maximum capacity. It will be raised to 33,000volts and carried by a double-pole line directly across countrya distance of 22 miles to a new distributing station at Sellwood,which the two companies will operate jointly. This station willalso embody the new Sellwood sub-station for the railway com-pany. Thus, instead of being a purchaser of power from thePortland General Electric Company and also having to dependon temporary steam plants, the Oregon Water Power & RailwayCompany will operate its system with its own water-generatedpower and will sell its surplus current for lighting and poweruses in Portland. It will take about a year to complete theClackamas River plant and its cost will involve an expenditureof about $1,000,000. The entire plant has been designed by

At a few points concrete retaining walls and sectionsof flumes will be necessary. The plateau at the end of theditch covers 90 acres and is to be utilized as a large open reser-voir. It will be excavated down to hard-pan, an average depthof 12 ft., and will thus hold enough water to help out on thedaily peak loads and also to operate the entire plant at its maxi-mum capacity for ten hours in case of accident to the ditch.A novel use of this reservoir for logging operations will be the companys chief engineer, G. I. Brown, and the work isbeing carried on under his immediate supervision.
