ST. LOUIS TRANSIT COMPANYS CINDER CAR the hoisting mechanism is underneath the floor. The en-tire shop is served by an overhead traveler system for carry-ing motors and heavy material. The hoisting in connec-tion with the overhead traveler system is done by compressedair hoists, which raise the material and deliver it to the chainhoists. The latter require no hose connection and can be moved to any point in the shop. Air hoists are placed at all pointswhere lifting or lowering is to be accomplished. The accom-panying engravings from photographs give a good idea of theseshops, which are well worth careful study on the part of visit-ing street railway men be-cause of the care with whichmany details have beenworked out.
