TYPE OF CITY CAR, CANTON-AKRON RAILWAY, IN FRONT OFWAITING ROOM, PUBLIC SQUARE to the rail and to a copper plate. A 625,000-cm aluminumfeeder extends the full length of this line on a separate crossarm. The telephone despatching system wires are No. 10 ironwire, and they are transposed every 600 ft. to do away withnoise on the line. All stopping points have a cluster of lightson the pole and the poles are suitably marked. Approachingall crossings are whistle signals. The rolling stock used on this system is of a very high order.For through interurban service there are ten cars built by theSt. Louis Car Company. They are 58 ft. over all and 8 ft.6 ins. wide. Side arms are 8 ft. long, of iJ/2-in. wrought-iron pipe, guyed to the post. On the Canton-Akron line thetrolley wire is of peculiar section, known as the Meyers Special,and it was furnished by the Waclark Company. It is a modi-fication of the figure 8 wire, having a flat surface on top.Hangers and ears were furnished by the Railway Equipment trolley parties or inspection trips, although they are used inregular service. They have round front end with no frontplatform. The motormans cab is built into the car and occu-pies half the front end. This gives one side seat at the frontend, making an exceptionally fine place for observation of theroad. These cars seat seventy-two passengers.
