The builders of thexMendelbahn took every precaution not to dis-turb the beauty of the surroundings, the pres-ence of the line being perceptible here andthere only by the projection of some viaduct. In May, 1902, the owners of the Bozen-Kaltern railway determined to extend theirline to the Mendel Pass. This extension, whichis partly electric and partly cable, was plannedand constructed by E. Strub, the well-known engineer ofZurich, Switzerland. The line is operated from April to No-vember.
