The reconstructionwork, which has now practically been com-pleted, consisted in rebuilding the entire road-way between Sausalito and San Rafael, puttingin double track for practically the entire dis-tance, installing a third-rail system of trainoperation, equipping the division with an im-proved automatic block signal system, buildinga high-tension power station, and erecting anew ferry depot and slip at Sausalito. TheMill Valley branch of the new system wasplaced in operation on Aug. 21, and the mainline to San Rafael was opened on Oct. 17.This is the first third-rail road to be con-structed and put into operation in California, 6 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL.
